The Importance of Character

The ultimate aim of human life and activity is development of character, according to most educated leaders. The most important goal you could hope to accomplish in the course of your life is to become a person with a clear vision, in every respect. Your purpose will be to develop the kind of personality and character that earns you the respect, esteem, and affection of the important people in your world.

Develop Your Character

Aristotle, may have been the greatest philosopher and thinker of all time. He was believed to have said, “If you wish to learn a virtue later in life, simply practice the virtue in every situation where that virtue is required. In other words, if you wish to develop the quality of courage, act courageously even when you feel afraid.

Aspire to Develop Leadership Qualities

If someone has told you it is easy to rise to a position of leadership in any organization or in any society, that someone is not being completely honest with you. The competition for leadership is fierce throughout society. Only the people who are the very best equipped to acquire leadership positions and then to hold on to those positions rise to the top in any area of business in the United States.

What Does It Take? Have a Clear Vision

One must have a clear vision. In a way, leadership is “situational.” What is necessary for success in a leadership position is determined by many factors, including the people to be led; the objectives to be accomplished; the competition for resources; the social, cultural, political, and economic environment; and the situation that the leader finds at the moment. Changing any of these factors will change the qualities of leadership necessary for success.

The Test of a Leader

Research shows when a person encounters a setback, a difficulty, an obstacle, or the inevitable crisis, one demonstrates the kind of person they really and truly are deep inside by their choices demonstrated through their actions. It is not what one speaks about necessarily, wishes, hopes, or intends that reveals one’s character. One’s actions reveal their character, especially actions in the face of adversity and possible setbacks or losses.

You Are Responsible

Developing a clear vision for your future is necessary. Develop unshakable courage by doing the things you fear. (Do not place your life or the lives of others in danger – we are not referring to that type of fear.) One should develop the habit of accepting complete responsibility for self and for every aspect of their life.

Tell the Truth

Perhaps some of the most important leadership qualities are the habit of integrity and honesty. One develops integrity and becomes a completely honest person by practicing telling the truth in every situation, even if the truth hurts.
Shakespeare wrote, “To thine own self be true,” meaning you are what you believe in. One must continually clarify what they stand for and what they will not stand for. Once these values and standards are decided then build a life around these certain values and standards, refuse to compromise those values for anything.
